Editorial summary
Prosper ISD's 2026-27 school year has 170 student days, with 84 days in the first semester and 86 in the second. Students start Tuesday, August 11, 2026, and finish Thursday, May 20, 2027. The district uses four nine-week grading periods; December 18 and May 20 are both grading-period endpoints and early-release days.
September 4 is a Professional Learning / Student Holiday, and September 7 is a School Holiday. October 9 is another Professional Learning / Student Holiday, followed by School Holidays on October 12-13. Thanksgiving Break runs November 23-27.
Winter Break runs December 21 through January 1. January 4 is a separate Professional Learning / Student Holiday, so students return January 5. March 12 is another Professional Learning / Student Holiday immediately before Spring Break March 15-19; with the weekends included, students are away from class from March 12 through March 21 and return March 22. February 15 and April 26 are reserved bad-weather make-up days and should not be treated as guaranteed days off.
Prosper ISD uses different school-day schedules by level: Early Childhood School runs 7:30 a.m.-2:50 p.m., elementary schools 7:50 a.m.-3:10 p.m., middle schools 8:20 a.m.-3:40 p.m., and high schools 8:55 a.m.-4:20 p.m. The academic calendar does not list early-release dismissal times; families should check their campus schedule.
Common questions
The first day is Tuesday, August 11, 2026. It is also the beginning of the first nine-week grading period.

Winter Break runs December 21, 2026, through January 1, 2027. January 4 is a separate professional-learning/student holiday, so students return Tuesday, January 5.
Students return Tuesday, January 5, 2027. The third nine weeks and second semester begin that day.

The academic calendar's date list names September 4 and October 9, 2026, and January 4, February 12, March 12 and April 23, 2027, as Professional Learning / Student Holidays. These are separate from the listed school holidays and major breaks.

April 26 is reserved as a Bad Weather Make-Up Day. Students attend only if Prosper ISD activates the date.

Source and scope
Dates and school hours come from Prosper ISD's official 2026-2027 District Academic Calendar, updated May 26, 2026. The June Board Recap confirms semester-end half-days were added back, and the September Board Recap confirms the October dates.
Events retain the official date-list boundaries; adjacent student holidays and weekend planning windows are kept separately in breaks. The January 4 and March 12 student holidays are not part of the official Winter Break or Spring Break events. Staff professional-learning dates are included only when students are also off. Normalized grading-period milestone names are derived from official dates. January 5 is an official grading-period start; its semester-start classification is derived from the semester boundary. Bad-weather make-up dates are conditional: countsAsStudentAttendanceDayUnderPublishedSchedule describes only baseline attendance, and mayBecomeAttendanceDay preserves possible activation; conditional dates are excluded from the confirmed no-school list. Compound classifications are queried with getEventTypes or hasEventType. Same-date events are grouped in the page table.
February 15 and April 26 are conditional bad-weather make-up dates. Prosper ISD announcements control whether students attend on either date, and campuses provide exact early-release dismissal details.
