School schedules
Editorial summary
Northwest ISD approved its 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 instructional calendars together after community feedback. The district plans two school years at a time because families said advance notice helps them arrange vacations and work schedules. Both calendars keep traditional-length Thanksgiving, winter and spring breaks, with additional student holidays for teacher preparation.
For 2026-2027, students begin Wednesday, August 12. The first quarter ends October 8, followed by student holidays on October 9 and 12. Students are also off November 2–3 and for Thanksgiving week, November 23–27. The second quarter ends with early release on December 18.
Students have no classes December 21–January 5 and return January 6. February 12 and 15 are student holidays, and March 5 is a professional-learning day with no student attendance. Spring Break runs March 15–19, followed by a separate teacher-planning day on March 22; classes resume March 23. Students are also off March 26 and April 23. The school year ends with early release on Friday, May 21.
The calendar lists STAAR testing dates December 1–11 and April 6–30. That does not mean every student tests on every date. Families should confirm individual testing dates with their campus.

Yes. November 2 is a student-staff holiday, and November 3 is a student holiday for teacher professional learning. Students return November 4.
Students are off November 23-27, 2026. The first two days are teacher-flex days, followed by three student-staff holidays.

Source and scope
This page uses Northwest ISD's adopted 2026-2027 Instructional Calendar. The date grid, legend, event notes, first and last day statements, school-hours table, early-release times, quarter markers, and STAAR windows were checked together.
Only student-facing dates are stored. Staff flex, planning, and professional-learning dates remain included when students do not attend. Winter holidays and Spring Break events stop at their source-listed boundaries; subsequent January and March student holidays are separate events. The breaks layer joins adjacent closures for family planning, without expanding official break categories. Other combined student no-school ranges are editorial planning aids, not official break names. STAAR events use isWindow=true and do not assign daily attendance or exam status; 2027-2028 range endpoints are derived from shading. Third-quarter starts are not classified as official semester starts. Office-only closures and staff preparation before the student year remain in the source documents, not the student event list. The December 21–January 1 winter event combines the separately printed December 21–31 and January 1 holiday entries, so its occurrence and range are derived; the holiday label and student closure remain official.
The district calendar page labels this as the current school-year calendar and separately publishes the future 2027-2028 calendar. Later routes will be added only after official PDFs are available and reviewed.
