Editorial summary
Students in Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District (EMS ISD) begin the 2026–2027 school year on Thursday, August 13, 2026. The last student day is Thursday, May 27, 2027. December 18 and May 27 are early-release days, not full holidays. The instructional calendar does not give dismissal times for those dates, so families should check with their campus before arranging pickup.
Students are off September 7 for Labor Day and September 8 for staff development, returning Wednesday, September 9. September 25 is another full student holiday. In October, the district lists October 9–12 as a student and staff holiday, followed by professional development on October 13. Students have five consecutive days without classes, October 9–13, and return October 14.
November 6 is a staff-development day with no student classes. Thanksgiving Break runs November 23–27, with school resuming November 30. Winter holidays are scheduled for December 21 through January 1. Because January 4 is also a student holiday, students have 17 consecutive calendar days without classes, December 19–January 4, including weekends. The spring semester begins Tuesday, January 5.
Students are off January 18 for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. February brings another extended break: February 12 and 16 are staff-development days, while February 15 is a student and staff holiday. Together with the weekend, these dates give students February 12–16 off. Classes resume Wednesday, February 17.
Spring Break is March 15–19, 2027. Students also have Friday, March 12, off for professional development, so there are no classes March 12–21, including weekends. Students return Monday, March 22. March 26 and April 9 are reserved bad weather make-up days; the district may use either date if weather closures require it.
EMS ISD uses different grading schedules for elementary and secondary students. Elementary schools have four nine-week grading periods, while secondary schools have six six-week periods. That means their grading-period end dates do not always match. For example, the first secondary period ends September 24, while the first elementary period ends October 8. Both school levels finish the fall semester on December 18 and the school year on May 27.
Graduation ceremonies take place after the last student day. Watson High School is scheduled for May 28 at the Jared Hardy Performing Arts Center at Chisholm Trail High School. Boswell, Chisholm Trail, Eagle Mountain and Saginaw high schools are scheduled for May 29 at Dickies Arena. Families should check their school's Senior Corner for ceremony times and updates.

Spring Break is March 15–19, 2027. Students also have Friday, March 12, off for staff development before the official break. Classes resume Monday, March 22.
Students have 10 consecutive calendar days without classes, March 12–21, 2027. March 12 is a separate staff-development day; the officially listed Spring Break is March 15–19.
Classes resume Monday, March 22, 2027. Thursday, March 11, is the last scheduled school day before the March 12 student holiday and Spring Break.
Good Friday falls on March 26, 2027, which EMS ISD lists as a reserved bad weather make-up day. Students may need to attend if the district uses that date to make up weather-related closures. It is not a guaranteed holiday.
April 9 is reserved as a bad weather make-up day. It is not a regular attendance day on the published schedule, but classes may be held if the district activates it. Check EMS ISD announcements before making plans.
The district reserves Friday, March 26, and Friday, April 9, 2027, for possible weather make-up classes. Neither date should be treated as a guaranteed day off. EMS ISD will determine whether either date is needed.
Monday, March 29, 2027, is not listed as a student holiday. Classes are scheduled as usual. The preceding Friday, March 26, is a separate reserved weather make-up date.
Early release is scheduled for Friday, December 18, 2026, and Thursday, May 27, 2027. December 18 ends the fall semester, and May 27 is the last day of school. Both remain student attendance days.
The 2026–2027 instructional calendar identifies December 18 and May 27 as early-release days but does not publish dismissal times. Check your child's campus for the correct pickup time.
Elementary schools run from 7:25 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., middle schools from 9:05 a.m. to 4:22 p.m., and high schools from 8:15 a.m. to 3:49 p.m., according to the district's 2026–2027 School Hours page. These are regular school-day hours, not early-release times.
The current 2026–2027 School Hours page lists doors opening at 7:00 a.m. for elementary schools, 7:45 a.m. for high schools and 8:30 a.m. for middle schools. Earlier district schedule-change notices listed 8:15 a.m. for middle schools. Confirm your middle school's arrival time directly with the campus.
In its April 2026 announcement, EMS ISD attributed the changes to improving transportation reliability and expanding course opportunities, including an eight-period high school schedule. The current 2026–2027 School Hours page lists regular start and dismissal times.
The four elementary grading periods are August 13–October 8 and October 14–December 18, 2026; then January 5–March 11 and March 22–May 27, 2027. Student holidays and staff-development days within those date ranges still apply.
The six secondary grading periods are August 13–September 24, September 28–November 5, and November 9–December 18, 2026; then January 5–February 11, February 17–April 8, and April 12–May 27, 2027. November 6 is a full student holiday; April 9 is a reserved weather make-up date.
The district publishes one instructional calendar for student holidays and breaks. The main difference is in grading periods: elementary schools use four nine-week periods, while secondary schools use six six-week periods. Their grading-period start and end dates may differ.
The instructional calendar shows when grading periods end, but not the exact dates report cards are posted. EMS ISD publishes a separate 2026–2027 Grading and Reporting Handbook. Families can check that guidance or contact their campus for report-card release dates.
The fall semester ends Friday, December 18, 2026, with early release for students. The spring semester begins Tuesday, January 5, 2027.
The published schedule gives a calculated baseline of 171 planned student attendance days: 206 weekdays between August 13 and May 27, minus 33 confirmed no-class weekdays and two reserved weather make-up dates. This is not an official annual total printed on the district PDF. Early-release days count as attendance days, and weather-related schedule changes may affect the final count.
Watson High School is scheduled to graduate Friday, May 28, 2027, at the Jared Hardy Performing Arts Center at Chisholm Trail High School. Boswell, Chisholm Trail, Eagle Mountain and Saginaw high schools are scheduled for Saturday, May 29, at Dickies Arena. Saginaw lists a 7:30 p.m. ceremony; the other three campuses currently list times as TBD. Check your school's Senior Corner for updates.
EMS ISD says it will send a ParentSquare message first, followed by updates on district and school websites and social media. If no closure or delay is announced, families should expect the normal school schedule.
EMS ISD's general procedure is to avoid closing schools early once students are in attendance. Parents should follow district announcements and contact their school if weather affects their child's attendance or pickup arrangements.

Source and scope
The district Calendars and Back to School Tools pages link the one-page 2026-2027 Instructional Calendar supplied for this review. The current downloaded PDF matches the local file by SHA-256. The separate 2026-2027 School Hours page supports regular bell times; district and campus notices support graduation details and general weather notifications.
Canonical events retain the printed holiday ranges. Longer family-planning breaks combine only confirmed student holidays and intervening weekends; professional development before August 13 and employee-only summer closures are excluded. Elementary nine-week and secondary six-week milestones stay grade-scoped except shared first/last dates and semester boundaries; early release is not narrowed to the scope of a coincident grading milestone. No dismissal clock time is inferred. The secondary caption explicitly ends periods on November 5 and April 8, while the grid places asterisks on November 6 and April 9. Store the printed instructional period ends and retain November 6 as a full student holiday and April 9 as a conditional make-up date. The calculated 171-day baseline is not an official printed total. Neither weather date is included in confirmed closure IDs. Graduation events are campus-scoped non-attendance milestones after May 27. The PDF’s generic May 29 graduation date is supplemented by the district’s Watson May 28 notice and the four campus Senior Corner pages. Do not copy the news article’s incorrect Friday label for May 29, 2027; the numeric date and campus pages establish Saturday. The annual school-hours and schedule-change pages conflict on middle-school door opening (8:30 a.m. versus 8:15 a.m.). Preserve both claims in the arrival FAQ and sourceDiscrepancies; do not treat either as a confirmed universal arrival time. Regular middle-school instructional hours agree across these sources. The April 8, 2026 schedule-change announcement supports the transportation and eight-period high-school explanation. Maintenance on October 16, 2026 restored missing nameSourceId values from each event’s supporting sourceId without changing nameBasis, event dates or statuses. Display-name evidence may support normalized wording without claiming a verbatim official label. Direct HTTP GET checks returned 404 for the two historical school-time-change URLs, their /updatedschoolhours redirect and three campus mirrors. Keep historical source IDs and explicit unavailability labels for provenance, remove the dead recommendation link, and do not treat search-index text as live-page verification. The current annual School Hours and Grading and Reporting overview returned 200. The overview links the 2026-2027 handbook resource, whose redirect returned 200 from the official Finalsite PDF host. Summer-break onset is inferred from the last regular student day, not from graduation or summer-program dates.
Official sources were checked October 16, 2026. The district’s 2026-2027 calendar webpage reports approval on January 20, 2025, while the news item dated January 21, 2026 says approval was at a Tuesday, January 21 meeting. These inconsistent date statements are preserved as a source discrepancy; no exact Board approval date is inferred. The PDF prints no publication, revision or adoption date, and its file metadata is not used as one. The generic Instructional Calendar subpage still describes 2025-2026; use the current 2026-2027 PDF linked from Calendars or Back to School Tools.
