Editorial summary
Amarillo ISD’s student year runs from Tuesday, August 18, 2026, through Friday, May 28, 2027. The district uses six grading periods. December 18 closes the first semester, and both December 18 and May 28 are early-release days with teacher preparation in the afternoon; the annual calendar does not publish dismissal times.
Students have a four-day weekend October 9–12, a full Thanksgiving week November 23–27, and spring break March 15–19. AISD’s Christmas holidays run December 21–January 1; January 4 is a separate student holiday for teacher preparation, so students return January 5.
AISD added 20 Summer Learning days to the 2026-2027 calendar, scheduled on weekdays from June 3 through June 30. The annual calendar also marks testing June 14–18 but does not identify the participating grades or subjects. June 1–3 are Staff Make Up (Snow) Days, not regular student make-up days.

Source and scope
Dates come from Amarillo ISD’s 2026-2027 School Calendar, version 2 dated August 13, 2026. The PDF prints December 15, 2025, as its approval date. The district’s current calendar page and the local copy were checked October 9, 2026. Board Briefs from December 15, 2025, and February 9, 2026, confirm the official 175 instructional days and the addition of 20 Summer Learning days.
Holiday, grading-period, early-release, testing and Summer Learning dates follow the PDF’s captions and symbols. Continuous student breaks combine confirmed holidays with adjacent weekends. Staff-only dates are excluded. Testing and summer program dates do not establish a requirement for every student to attend. The district’s 175 instructional days and the derived 176 student attendance dates use different measures: both early-release dates count as attendance dates. Ordinal grading-period names and combined display names are derived; the original labels are preserved. Summer Learning and Testing remain separate events when their dates overlap.
For revisions, use Amarillo ISD’s Calendars page. Campus communications provide dismissal times, testing assignments and Summer Learning arrangements.
